1. The Sacred Acre: The Ed Thomas Story, by Mark Tabb. This was a page-turner. I'm not sure if I enjoyed it so much because it hit so close to home (literally) or if it was because I never realized what an incredible role-model coach Thomas was to so many. It was a great story of small-town Iowa, life after the tornado and a tribute to the man himself.
2. The Help, by Kathryn Sockett. I was nervous about getting through this book in 10 days (it was shelved as a quick-pick so you can't renew it), but having already seen the movie helped keep the pages moving since I knew what to expect. I loved the movie, but the book, as always, was even better. It definitely makes you evaluate how you treat people and is so much more than just a book on segreagation. It's a must read.
3. Jerseys Pub and Grub. We've been trying to get downtown more often to support the businesses that have opened back up after the flood (43 back up and running now). This past weekend we tried out Jersey's. It was delicious food, with a loud enough atmosphere to drown out the noise that accompanies dining with children. Great for a family friendly, relatively inexpensive dinner out, or a great place to meet for drinks in a lively atmosphere.
4. White Star Ale House. Also new downtown, this place was great. I dined out with some co-workers and we each ordered something different off the menu to check things out. The food was great and though I usually find a go-to meal to order off the menu at each restaurant we go to, there are multiple dishes that I can't wait to try here. It's a great place for a romantic, cloth-napkin night out, but also family friendly if you're taking the kiddos. The dessert menu alone is enough to keep me coming back...not to mention the huge sparklers that they add to their yummy cakes on your birthday.
5. Confetti cake dip. Thanks again to Pinterest, this dip is quick, easy and delicious. One funfetti cake mix, 2 plain cups yogurt, and a small cool whip. Mix and serve with some animal crackers and it's an easy dip to make last minute that is tasty and addicting.

The Sacred Acre is a must-read for all educators and coaches. The faith based story surprised me, and I was sure to pass this book on as Christmas gifts to family members this year. So glad you found time to read it!
