Ahhh...I want to scream. Last weekend as I geared up for my long run I knew it was going to be a rough one. I hadn't even laced up my shoes and I could already feel my hamstrings were tight, my feet felt like lead and the 42 degree reading on my thermometer had me missing my warm bed. I headed for the trail hoping that the trees would calm the wind and the frolicking bunnies would calm my mind. The first few miles were cold, but by mile 3 I shed the mittens and attempted to find my stride. My last long run I had kept right around a 9:40 pace so I was hoping to shave a few seconds off this time around but quickly realized today wasn't the day so I slowed into a 10 minute pace and just tried to cover the mileage.
Mile 9, over my iPod, I heard a pop in my knee and pain shot up to my hip. I am not stupid...most days...so I stopped, stretched and walked. I was still 3 miles from my car so I figured I'd walk back. A mile later, I was feeling okay and in a hurry to get home so I started to jog. Down I went. After falling a few more times I figured I better just walk nice and slow back to the car and get home. A little ice and stretching later and it still hurts. Now the question is, do I go to the dr for a quick fix so I can run the next 2 weeks or do I rest and hope it works itself out? I knew I shouldn't have posted on here that I had registered for Wisconsin...I jinxed myself. Here's to hoping I'm just a pansy.

I'm no doctor (I'll ask John his advice when he gets home), but from my experience, I'd rest and run the half. Crazy, but some of those training plans only have you go up to 10 miles. That's what I did, and I still crossed the finish line. You have put in the milage already above that, so I think you'll be fine assuming your knee??? is okay. I would just want a run for confidence before race day. I didn't run more than twice in the last two weeks before my marathon. As John says, "The hay is in the barn." Thinking and praying for you! I'll check in with you soon!
John asked if there is/was swelling. If so, there might be more of an injury there. If not, you're probably okay with some rest and recovery before the big run! I'm anxious to now how you are doing!
