GOTR Fall 2013

This fall my Tuesdays and Thursdays were spent volunteering for Girls on the Run. This program is a girl empowerment program for 3rd through 5th grade girls that I got involved in last year. After school twice a week I would drive over to the girls' school and along with 4 other coaches we would spend 90 minutes discussing anything from peer pressure to the food pyramid all the while incorporating fun running activities. The coaches were AMAZING and all brought an interesting perspective to the discussions and runs. Some of the topics and a few of the girls' personalities/behavior made for a challenging season, but the weather was usually quite beautiful and it was fun to get to know more families and spend more time with the students that my children spend a lot of their time with. Grace is so excited to be a 3rd grader so that she can be a part of Girls on the Run too. I can't wait for next year when the two of us can both be a part of this group! All of the coaches are RETURNING they had such a great season and the race will be in town making the commute to our final celebration much more manageable!
