SNOOOW DAAAAY!

I've been an Iowan my entire life and a teacher a good chunk of it. Though most business professionals probably long for a snow day to stay home, I have to say, I am tired of them. I can never remember a year that we have missed so many school days based off of things such as...one inch of snow, cold temperatures, and, my personal favorite, impending bad weather. We live in IOWA. There is going to be snow, we are used to bad driving conditions, and parents have the choice to send or not send their students to school. In my humble opinion most of our cancellations this year could have been a 2 hour delay. Not to mention this would have kept me from standing in my kitchen this morning with my coat, shoes and school bag on, waiting to see if I should head out the door or not. Instead I found myself making phone calls to daycare, rescheduling piano lessons, and readjusting lesson plans...again. I know it sounds crazy, but I just want to work already! I know they are adding days on to the school year, but I don't foresee any plans to push back the AP exam. My APers have now lost an entire week of prep time!
Okay, enough of the negative, with all of this frustration, I am thankful to be surrounded by little people who still find joy in snow days. It was awesome to watch their little faces beam with excitement over the knowledge of a day spent at home. Once they got over the initial disappointment of the fact that their bummer of a mom left all of their snow gear at school, they were excited for a day spent together. So, those of you who still relish snow days as days to sleep in and enjoy the gift of "extra" time, let me assure you, once you have children, those days are gone. We started bright and early today. By 9AM we had already eaten breakfast, gotten ready, practiced piano, knocked out one set of school Valentines, put together 2 puzzles, read 4 books, and I had gotten puked on twice. Did I mention, I should be relishing the good luck that our No School day happened on a day where I had a sick kid?! About 8am we realized, one of us would have had to take the day off anyway!
Snow days give us lots of time to fulfill the Rainbow bracelet orders the girls are taking at school.

Don't let it fool you, everything starts off innocent and sweet...these "awww" moments turn quickly! :)

We even had the privilege of having daddy work from home one of our snow days. This is a blessing and a curse...so fun to have him home...really hard to keep 3 girls from bothering him all day when he sets up shop in the living room. Glad our TV can double as an extra computer monitor for him!
