Pinewood Derby

When Grace joined Adventure Guides in Kindergarten I would have never guessed that the time would have flown by so quickly. The program ends in 3rd grade so she has been relishing every event before her time with Adventure Guides comes to an end. She and Emma participated in the Pinewood Derby again this year. Grace wanted to make a pencil, and in true Emma fashion, she found a fun little play on words and decided on an eraser to match...or better, an E-racer. My Emma...she's a keeper.

Putting on her first coat of primer. It was awesome to have a car that required minimal cutting. Emma was able to make a lot of her car all by herself.

We were nervous that Mark wouldn't get back from Colorado in time, but lucky for us, he flew back and was able to be there for the race. Grace was excited to take 2nd place this year and take home some hardware. The girls and boys races were combined this year (they forgot to order trophies for one group) so it was especially sweet knowing that she had beat out the boys. Emma won for Best Paint. Both her car and Graces were about the same speed, but hers jumped the track and they didn't re-race it. She handled it with grace though, and bragged to all of her friends how Grace had won a trophy.

St. Matthew representing at the Derby Races. Emma and the rest of the 1st graders had to leave a little early for their last basketball game so they missed the awards ceremony.
