Oregon 2016 - Day 1

At 8:30 Saturday morning we hit the road for a 16-day road trip! With 3 kids and doctors’ orders to stop every 2 hours and stretch the legs, the drive may be slow. However, it also ensures that we will soak up as much as possible on our trip.
Our first stop; beautiful Sioux Falls. We lucked out and visited while they were having a Cultural Fair, so we took in the falls, hiked up the look-out tower, and then walked through the Cultural Fair enjoying all of the many languages we heard spoken. We didn’t stay long as the temp was 101 when we parked, but it was a great stop to stretch our legs and the falls are breathtaking.

Next we headed to Mitchell, SD where we explored the Corn Palace. Being an Iowan, a convention center decorated entirely in corn was intriguing. We walked around enjoying some of the exhibits, checking out the tractor and combine simulations and escaping the heat and sun.

Our tummies stopped us at Al’s Oasis to try a buffalo burger for dinner. When we travel, we follow one rule…no restaurants that we could eat at home. Of course, we had to sneak in a few photo ops with the buffalo too.

On to Kadoka, SD. Kadoka literally means, “hole in the wall” and it definitely lives up to its name. After a quick swim to escape the heat, and a switch of hotel rooms after some interesting discoveries, we were glad to wake up alive and “get the heck out of dodge.”
