Week 7

Week 7 update:

Weight: 6 lbs 3 oz
Length: 18.5 inches

Though Will's nurse comes to the house twice a week for check-ups, we followed up with our family doctor on Monday as well to check in on Will's ear infection and make sure things were all cleared up. His ears looked great and his eyes were clear also. Since she spent the last week doing research on Will's condition to decide if she would be willing to take him on as a patient or not, she did a really thorough exam of him at this appointment. Taking him on is a big commitment since so few people know what to expect with him, so we're grateful that she is considering it as it will save us a lot of trips down to the University.

Unfortunately, she heard some crackling in Will's lungs this week. Given that he doesn't have a fever, we are hopeful that since he had cried so hard on the car ride over that he just aspirated a bit of milk and that is what she was hearing in there. She recommended a chest x-ray as she fears it may be the onset of pneumonia, but we decided instead of stressing him out, we would wait a day or two and see if the crackling lessens. Luckily, on Tuesday, his nurse thought his lungs sounded clear again. He has developed a new wheezy breath that has us a bit concerned, but still no fever, so we're staying hopeful. Another lung check tomorrow, then back to the Dr. on Monday for a re-check.

In the meantime, we're beefing up our defenses at home. Mark and the girls all headed in for their flu shots. They weren't giving the flu mist this year so the girls were nervous to get shots, but once they realized they were doing it for Will, they stepped up to the plate with courage. They'd do anything for that little guy.
Being brave getting her 'Will' shot.

On a more positive note, he is gaining weight like a champ. Up almost a pound since last week, he has graduated from preemie diapers to newborns. His preemie clothes are finally starting to fit and he's even wearing some of his newborn clothes now! Since he was progressing so well, over the weekend we decided to take the plunge and upgrade his room. We moved him out of ours and into his own. Emma happily gave up her room for him and moved to the basement and he seems to be loving his new space. We're hoping that with the wheezing and crackling we didn't jinx things for him. He has had a few really good nights in his new room though, so we are getting more comfortable with not monitoring his breathing as much and trying to relax a little and get some sleep. Fingers crossed his lungs are clear again tomorrow!
