4th of July

Per tradition, we traveled south to celebrate the 4th with family. We started off with the Sunrise 5k. It was amazing how many hills Wellman, IA could unfold and reaffirmed that some of the fastest runners [15 min 5k...woof] in the state live here as I was proud of my finish time on all those hills; yet I still brought up the rear of the pack. It was a great way to start the morning off and the chocolate milk at the finish line was worth every drip of sweat. (Kalona Grocer friends you can thank me later).
Anna smoked us, but we all had a solid run.

Then it was off to the parade! These girls should be known as the cavity clan. The candy they raked in was ridiculous.

Then it was back to the house for some lunch and fun activities. Jillian taught everyone how to make red, white, and blue drinks by separating juices by sugar content. It was a cool little science lesson!

After a few injuries playing softball last year, we hoped that volleyball would be a little less dangerous. Only a twisted ankle this year...good thing we're not a competitive family, right!? :)

We spent the night roasting hot dogs for dinner, making smores, firing off fireworks and burning through the 3 foot long sparklers! It was a really nice, relaxing night. Ms. Norah found a slimy new friend to join her for the fireworks show too while she and grandma ooo'd and ahhh'd their way through the show.
