I've decided to start a new adventure.
After No Foot To Small asked if I would be willing to share Will's story, I poured out my heart on what that little boy meant to us in hopes that someone else going through a similar situation would feel less isolated and more hopeful. Losing a child can be a lonely road and there were multiple times while preparing for Will that I read something that shimmered a little bit of hope into the life that we could possibly have with him. I hung on each word I read knowing that a few babies like Will survived their births, so there was a chance that Will might survive his, if only for even a few hours, and we'd be able to meet him. Those words I read kept me afloat for those long weeks leading up to his birth. I love the idea that words can hold such hope.
So when Cedar Rapids Mom's Blog asked if they could run the article as well, I was pleased to know that perhaps Will's story would fall onto the heart of a mama who was searching for hope for her baby. Whereas NFTS offers help with loss for its followers, I felt like the readers on CRMB would consist of more people searching for help with hope. It seemed like a great venue to share his story.
I'm pretty technologically inept when it comes to social media, so it didn't really dawn on me how far reaching these things can go or how readability really works. I'm used to writing for me, not for an audience, so it's definitely a different type of writing. I write so that I can document my childrens lives. I work to keep posts locked down and private to only the people that really care to read it, or those who have a sincere interest and investment in helping me raise them to be good people. If you don't know anything more about me than what you read on the blog, you frankly, shouldn't be reading my blog.
Writing and sharing with the goal of reaching the most readers is a whole different experience for me, so I was excited when CRMB offered me an invite to write for their blog. It is a challenge that pushes me to write for an audience. To put more meaning behind my words. To avoid writing a stream of consciousness [because someday it might be valuable for my kids to know how my mind works] and instead, write something that might actually be worth reading. If nothing else, it will challenge me to step up my game on my own blog and explore a different way of writing, and...I love a good challenge.
Here's to hoping my writing reaches someone who can take something from it. If not, I've only signed a 6 month contract, so no harm done. :)
