One step forward...

...two steps back. That is the theme of my running these days. You would think it would be the exact opposite now that warmer weather is approaching, but running has gotten really difficult for me lately. I seemed to have peaked in late February when my long runs were upwards of 10 miles. Looking for any reason to keep up my morale, I decided to run with my schools running club, so a few other teachers and I went out for a 4 mile run...it felt miserable. Thank goodness for good company, because the miles were rough. I knew it wouldn't be my best run as it was one of the first times out on the pavement since winter and I had gotten pretty spoiled running on a soft, flat treadmill, however, it was awful. Since then, I have had a few more really bad runs and now have a nagging foot pain that burns all up my the outside of my foot. Not a typical foot injury from running, more of a severe burning like Shingles. (It runs along a completely different nerve from where I had Shingles last time...and I seem to only get Shingles when I'm preggo) so I have no idea where this stupid pain is coming from. Fingers crossed the pavement and I will have a happy reunion soon. In the meantime, Zumba is still my Monday night pick-me-up and I've been doing more weights to compensate for my crappy runs. Maybe this is my sign that I need to stop ignoring an upper body workout! :) Hopefully the warm weather will get my legs itching for a good run soon. Any advice on how to get out of work-out slumps?!
