You might say I have a little addiction to taking pictures. Cute children + poor memory = desire to capture fun moments. Most of my memories are based off of snapshots that help me recall some fun portion of my life. My first real interest started back with a pixie camera and 110 film in 4-H. ---Back in the day where you had to buy the flash for your camera individually and the scent of the exploded bulbs after you took the picture would burn your nostrils and - looking back now - I believe gave me a slight high. :) -- My interest grew more when I became the editor for my school yearbook in high school and I had the chance to relive school moments a pica at a time. I had planned to go to college for photo journalism (my how plans change) and though I ended at Coe instead of Iowa, I am not too saddened by the fact that I went to a college that didn't offer my major. My love for photography developed more as I stared working on a family history project which opened this whole amazing world to my ancestors and the stories that one photo can hold.
Before our trip to the Dells, I decided to make a purchase of a point-and-shoot camera as I knew that lugging my SLR around would be cumbersome and my heart would be so sad if it, by chance, got broken or water damaged. I haven't had a point-and-shoot for almost 2 years now as I have always used my cell phone for those quick candids that I wanted to capture. It never quite did the trick, but it was close enough to merit not spending money on another camera, so I knew the only way I would pony up the $$ for a point-and-shoot would be if it was waterproof and shockproof.
I decided on the FujiFilm Finepix XP70. I've only had one Fuji camera before and it worked great for me. I moved over to Canon when I became a big girl with my own paycheck and have always been pleased with them, - have I mentioned how much I love my SLR?! I am not a fan of Sony or Olympus cameras, I despise Nikons, and Kodak is not keeping up with technology changes as well as other companies. Anyway, I love everything about this tiny little camera from its compact design to its gazillion shooting modes. If you are looking for a tiny new photo friend, this little guy is for you. The underwater mode was an incredibly fun way to capture our wet weekend adventures in the Dells.
