After the horse park, before bidding farewell to Lexington
we had to pay a visit to the Mary Todd Lincoln home and learn more about the
Lincolns. After learning how Mary Todd Lincoln would have married Henry Clay
Ash, a more prominent statesman, but instead married Abraham Lincoln, we headed
through Thoroughbred Park to the Ashland Gardens to see the Henry Clay estate. The house was closed for tours, but the grounds were beautiful, filled
with tons of information on the family, and surrounded by beautiful gardens.
I could handle this as my backyard!
Mary Todd Lincoln's house. With 15 brothers and sisters the girls thought it would be a pretty packed house!
Henry Clay Estate. Called Ashland for all of the Ash trees, we learned a lot about this interesting man and his Great Compromise of 1850.
