Fitness challenge

This year, once again, my family has decided on a health challenge to start off the new year. Since we are all at different health levels and have varying degrees of flexibility in our schedules, we decided to challenge each other to see who could work out the most days in a three month period. No weight loss, distance covered, or specific work outs...just tracking the amount of 30 minute sessions we can each get in.

This past week was very motivating. We are using Map My Run to track each others activity and with its automatic notifications it is a simple way to follow everyone's progress. Since the challenge doesn't require specifics, it allows lots of flexibility to try new things. This week I tried a new spin class. It was really fun; with a down-to-earth instructor, a social group of people, and convenient class time, I think this will become a regular in my week. The last time I did a spin class it was far too intense (personality not work out) and left me feeling ridiculed not motivated. I also incorporated a little yoga in this week. It was a great way to stretch out tired muscles after getting a couple runs in this week; all while working up a good sweat and challenging my super weak core muscles.

My family is going strong...I like having a leader board to see where I rank and getting a glimpse in to when they are sneaking work outs in, as my excuse of "too busy" doesn't cut it in this group. They are waking up early to log 5AM workouts, so it motivates me to wake up and do the same.
