Galena Anniversary trip

On Wednesday afternoon Mark called and said he could get off at noon on Thursday, so we decided after 2 failed attempts at Anniversary 14.0 and Anniversary 14.1, we would try to find a sitter and escape for 24 hours. On short notice, we thought Galena would be a good choice. We thought if we crossed state lines and got away, we could officially celebrate our anniversary without interruption. No work, no children, no reality. With all the discussions, decisions, and surprises we have had lately, we wanted to spend 24 hours focusing on us. Not if we agree or disagree on what next steps should be taken, not planning out what the next months hold in store, not trying to ensure that we are taking proper precautions to ensure that our children are doing okay...but rather, focusing on each other. Living in the moment. Celebrating this relationship that we both get to be a part of. We did not discuss Will. We did not discuss the girls. We did not discuss doctors. We gave ourselves 24 hours to escape. It was bliss.
We spoiled ourselves with a beautiful little suite with a garden view, cozy fireplace and plenty of space.

With this beautiful view, we also had the fun of watching them set up for another couple to prepare to share their lives together.
After a beautiful afternoon, a little shopping (and salsa indulging), and a huge storm that brought about an intense life-sized game of chess, we awoke to a calm quiet morning strolling through Grant Park and enjoying the peace.

Our selfie game isn't very strong...

When you can't hit up the brewery's or the winery's, you indulge with flights of root beer!

We had an incredible night out at Vinny's, eating far more that we should have, and enjoyed one of Galena's most talked about attractions...PT Murphey. He was incredibly personable, funny and talented. Many thanks to Mark's parents for swooping in last minute to help us enjoy 24 hours away!!
