Disaster babies

We have a knack for having babies during natural disasters.

Grace was born in April 2006 during an F2 tornado. We spent a good portion of our hospital stay in the hallway with my parents, trying to avoid the windows in the hospital as we had heard of the damage that had happened in Iowa City taking out St. Patricks Church.

Emma was born just a few weeks before the flood of 2008. Mark headed down to sandbag while I hung at home with the girls hoping for the best. Lucky for us our sump pump kept up and the water didn't get much past our swing set in the backyard.

Norah was born during the week of the May 2011 tornado outbreak. It was one of the largest outbreaks of tornadoes on record. During our graduation ceremony at school, just as they were getting ready to hand out diplomas, we were all ushered to the center of the school to stay safe as the sirens sounded. The outbreak ended on the 26th, she was born on the 27th.

Will came just in time for the flood of 2016. We had a fear that we wouldn't make it all the way to the Uof I in time for him to be born but, luckily, he was born before the flood so we weren't stuck in the crazy traffic on the 380 bridge as the city shut down. The flood shut down schools for a week when we got home from the hospital giving us an entire week as a family to enjoy our time with him.

Our next baby...tornado again?! I think we better stop having kiddos.
