Chest Xray

Yesterday, Will had an appointment to get a few vaccinations, but instead, we decided to tackle his lungs. The wheezing, unfortunately, was sounding worse Monday morning and adding a car ride to the doctors office compounded his breathing struggles. The crackles in his lungs had increased so we discussed options for a chest xray. We discussed the two possible outcomes and a plan going forward and ended with; if it was pneumonia, we would combat it with another round of antibiotics (knowing he just came off of an antibiotic for his ear infection, so it probably wouldn't work), or if it was heart failure, we would have a better understanding of how advanced his breathing issues were and how much longer his heart may sustain him. I had never imagined I would be hoping for pneumonia.

Will was an absolute trooper for his chest xray. He was upset by having to lay naked on a cold flat table so we were unsure if we would get any clear films, but he was awesome and amazingly, when she was ready to take the picture, his body relaxed and he took a deep breath and held it. We couldn't have asked for better images. After spending the morning getting handled, after his xray, he snuggled in for a nap so, knowing he doesn't tolerate car rides well, our doctor recommended we stay put and rest in the room and she would come back and review the results as soon as the radiologist downtown could read them. They expedited the results and we took a look at the images. Clear. No pneumonia. No sign of heart failure. Just a little atelectasis and possible bronchiloitis, which they didn't seem worried about.

Since the wheezing is causing him some major distress, they decided to see if a few nebulizer treatments would help ease his breathing and let his heart rest a bit. After a rough night and an even worse morning, we gave him a few doses of morphine to help relax him and take the stress off of his heart until his nebulizer comes. If there are any spare prayers you could throw up to the big guy today, we would really appreciate it. Hoping our little guy musters up all his #WillPower to fight through whatever it is that is making his breathing so hard.

On a more positive note, Will has a cozy new space to call his very own now while he rests and recuperates. The rocking chair and warmth of the sun are calling our names for an afternoon cuddle as we try to keep him calm and relaxed.
