Before my sister, Jessica, turned 40, she wanted to run a race. She debated between a 10k and a half marathon and decided that the Park to Park at George Wyth State Park would be a great place to make it happen. It was flat, the weather was beautiful and there were nearly 1,000 runners to keep us company on the course.
She decided to do a 10k before tackling a half, and she wanted to be the first one done, so while she ran the 10k, Jenisa and I ran the half. We started out way too fast (our first mile was in the 8's) and by the time we hit the 10 mile mark my body was mad at me for starting so quickly. Jenisa and I had hung together for most of the run, but I could tell she still had lots of gas in the tank so I held back and sent her ahead. We all 3 ended our races with a PR.
I love that Jessica set this goal for herself for her birthday. What an awesome way to welcome in a new decade and I'm so thankful I got to be a part of it.
I was the last one to finish, but I was happy with my run.
Happy birthday to one of the best!
WillPower accompanied us all on another run. I'm pretty sure he was running with Jessica though because I guessed her finish time almost exactly while Jenisa and I were still on the course. ;)
