This past weekend we headed to the farm to visit with cousins that were in town. As Kim put it, it felt like we were 12 again. We reminisced over our mischievous days, the trouble we caused, and even made a little time to create some new memories.
I hate to think we take for granted the fun we have on the farm, but for my girls, the novelty of combine rides was their favorite part. Grandpa worked us hard calculating bushels, acres, and yields. The girls decided you have to be really smart to be a farmer and we remembered how truly thankful we are that these people put food on our table each day.
Since Mark has been working for John Deere he spent Sunday afternoon in the combine learning more about the programs and displays. It was awesome to hear him talk about the difference between what he programs, and seeing it first-hand in the field. Of course, he rode a little on Saturday too with Norah and Brandt. Those 2 had a blast in there.
When we weren't "farming" we were exploring. We worked on "taming" grandma's 8 new kitties and Grace was pretty excited to be able to hold one.
We went to the timber and learned that when you touch a frog, it WILL jump. If only I had captured the look on Norah's face when that cute little guy took off.
Grandpa found us lots of good trees to climb.
We even excavated some bones. I hope that hip bone is from something domesticated, because it was HUGE.
The trees were just turning and the views were amazing. We hiked through a little piece of Heaven this weekend.
Norah would have spent the entire afternoon on the tire swing.
Even after a hike, a trip to the pond, and riding in the tank, the girls had energy to expel. Good thing they love grandma's trampoline!
