Savannah

From the lighthouse we then headed into Savannah to check in to our hotel and scope out the River Walk. We had reservations to take a carriage ride through Savannah and learn about the history of this beautiful city, so we stopped off for dinner at a great little seafood place on the river close to where our carriage departed. The Shrimp Po’boys were great and so was the fish! I’m loving all of the fresh seafood meals overlooking the water! We then walked around the river for a bit and headed for our carriage ride. Savannah is a beautiful city with its cobblestone streets, historic downtown, and romantic river walk. However, it’s not a city I would spend a lot of time in with kids. The carriage ride was the perfect mix of history and city sights, without dragging the girls to a lot of places they wouldn’t be interested in. Our guide was phenomenal and did a mix of history and ghost stories. Savannah is known for its historic ghosts, so the girls liked getting in on these stories and our guide kept it pretty PG. Hopefully no nightmares tonight!

We were thinking with the heat they would cancel our ride, but Felix was up for the challenge. I highly recommend the Historic Carriage Ride company. They stopped half way through the ride and gave Felix a little hose down, a drink, and a rest. The girls loved watching him drink from the hose and then take it and spray his handler.
Lots of awesome history about Savannah. The girls liked hearing about all the ghosts in the graveyard behind us! It locks up at 9pm, but lots of people report seeing people walking through there at night!

After our carriage ride we walked along the river some more and stopped off for *what’s becoming traditional* ice cream. It was a beautiful night and was a relief to feel the cooler breeze move in, and feel the temps dip back down into the 80’s. We stopped off in Ellis square to let the girls splash around in the fountains for a bit since it was such a hot day and we were headed back to the hotel. Of course, Grace just dipped her toes a bit, Norah got her legs all wet and had fun racing back and forth, and Emma…she got soaked! Love that girl, she goes all-in on everything she does.

Splashing around in Ellis Park got two thumbs up from everyone.

What a beautiful park to cool down on a hot summer night.
