Saturday of Thanksgiving break we had to make a hard decision. Our beloved Daisy hadn't eaten for nearly 2 weeks and was almost to the point she was unable to stand up. We knew we were only keeping her comfortable for our benefit and decided it was time to say farewell. We sat the girls down and explained to them it was time to let her go. We called the vet and they were phenomenal in helping us say good-bye and making sure that she was comfortable.
Over a month later, we still are missing her dearly. Norah misses her snuggle buddy. Emma misses her reading buddy. Grace misses her laying next to the piano listening to her practice. I miss her comforting sense of protection. However, I think Mark misses her most...from their late night walks followed up by their late night snacks to her greeting him when he comes home each day. She was drama free in our house of chaos and she provided plenty of therapy sessions for us all. Our house is quiet without her. There is an emptiness. At one point, each of us, out of habit, has referenced her assuming she'll come running. The vet was kind enough to make a paw print Christmas ornament for us, and the girls stop by and talk to her or tell a funny memory they have of her often. People ask if we will get another dog, but the girls haven't asked yet. They seem to know that she was one in a million.
